068 - Fiber disk

FIBER DISKS were made of burlap and were used for processing olives. Firstly, the fruit was grinded and thrown with a shovel under the millstones. Then, the pulp (“chamouri”) was stretched on a fiber disk. This process was repeated at all fiber disks, which were successively placed one upon another in the pressroom. The pressroom (“plandroni”) was operated by two men, who rotated a shaft. By pressing it constantly, oil came out from the fiber disks and fell through a small slot at the center to the bottom.
