033 - Ceramic jar

CERAMIC POT with wide mouth and wide bottom, mainly used for oil storage. Its mouth was sealed with a clay or wooden lid. Ceramic jars were placed in domestic warehouses, as well as in fields, where they were used for storing irrigation water. The shape and style of this jar indicate that it came from the pottery workshops of the Messenian Gulf, which were at their prime between early 19th to mid-20th century.

Donor: Georgios Karabatos
