133 - Printing machine

PRINTING MACHINE used by Mr. Michael Andreikos to print the “Laconia” newspaper, issued by him. It was manufactured in Italy (Trieste), according to a plate on the printing machine. Printing machines are divided into three categories: a) upright printing press, b) level printing press, and c) rotary press. This printing machine belongs to the upright printing press category, because the printing plate and the press plate are flat, but the printing plate is upright and stable, while the pressure plate moves to print. “After typesetting the printing plates, by composing each text by hand, printing plates were inked with the appropriate rollers. The inking system consisted of a trough (“melanio”), wherein the ink was placed, and a number of squeegees (rubber blades) that carried the ink from the melanio to the printing plate. This process was called shΕΕΤ transport system. Ink from the prominent points of the plate was transferred to the printing substrate through a pressure system. The printed-paper was then forwarded to the export loft, a table where printed copies were concentrated. The process was repeated for every copy”.
